Character Animations - Bow & Arrow
A downloadable asset pack
REQUIREMENTS: This is an animation expansion for my Character Base asset. It adds three new pages of animations, so you must own the Character Base in order to use this.
This asset adds three new pages of combat animations to my Character Base. All these animations revolve around using a bow & arrow. Just like in the Base, all of the following animations come in four directions (north, south, east, and west-facing):
- Drawing/sheathing a bow
- 4-frame combat-ready idle
- 4-frame combat-ready move
- Firing an arrow straight
- Firing an arrow up
- Parrying an attack (NEW!)
- Evading an attack
- Getting hit by an attack
- Getting knocked on the ground
- Lunge/leap forward (NEW!)
- Retreat/leap backward (NEW!)
- Three different bow types, each with their own sprite sheets:
- Two bonus outfits (the same ones from the Base)
- Two bonus hairstyles (the same ones from the Base)
Some extras I've also included:
- A text file explaining all the animations, along with some suggested timing.
- Separate sheets with all the bow, arrow, and quiver sprites so you can set up your own custom animations.
- Visual guides demonstrating which frames are used for which animations and when to move the bow or quiver sprite in front of or behind the character sprite.
- The multi-layered multi-framed source file, to assist you in making your own outfits, hairstyles, and more (requires Aseprite). This isn't officially supported but is included for advanced users. Go wild, just don't ask me how to use it!
The bows and quiver each come on their own sprite sheets, and your game will need to be able to switch the equipment to in-front-of or behind the character sprite during some animations. If your engine doesn't support paper doll mechanics or dynamic layer swapping, you'll need to use an image editor to set up these sprites before you use them.The three bows all come in five different color palettes. The arrow & quiver comes in eight color palettes. The body sprite and the two free hairstyles all come in the same color palettes found in the Character Base (that's ten skin tones and thirteen hair colors).

Hi, am I right to say that you currently don't provide any cloth pack working with this?
Correct. They will be updated eventually, but I've got a lot of other stuff that I want to finish first.
Understood, and I don't want to blame you as I really like your work. But I think this should be displayed at the top of this page. As it is that makes it sadly kinda useless. It's explained in the cloak and hood page but not here.
All this stuff takes time. I am only one person. I don't blame you for going another route if combat outfits are the last thing you need before you can ship your game. But if you've got the rest of the Base working, you can just use a placeholder file while you work on the rest of your content.
This is what Im doing indeed, I also joined as patreon to further support future work. NO worries I understand you are alone. I was just pointing this is not clear from this page that this is not usable with cloak and hood, nothing more :)
It says in each outfit product description that they're not compatible with the combat add-ons. I made them long before combat add-ons existed. This is an ongoing project that I will likely expand upon for years. If I waited to release a combat add-on until all the outfits had been updated, each one would take months. Instead, you have the Base sprites here and now. You can put them into your engine now, you can build your combat mechanics and playtest it. I am pretty certain I'll have the outfits updated before your game launches. If you want to use these assets, I encourage you to plugin a placeholder file for the combat outfits. I'll have them eventually and you'll already have everything in place.
Hi Seliel, can you also make a sword animation and a punch/Kick animation?
Yeah, there's gonna be sword & shield, 2-hand weapons, dual daggers, martial arts, and spellcasting. I'm letting patrons vote on which order I get them done, but I'll get around to everything eventually 😊
Hi Seliel, I am having a hard time finding the walking and base animation stuff for the bow and quiver to match with the base walking ect animations. I've got all the combat stuff done correctly but did not see any stuff that goes with the character base pack.
I haven't included any special sheets for Base animations while carrying a bow outside of combat. If that's something you want your game to have, you'll need to use the separated weapon sprites and copy/paste them into new sheets on your own. Or attach them programmatically at runtime (probably not possible in RPGMaker).
