This gloomy cave tileset is part of the Mana Seed collection, emulating the look and feel of 16-bit SNES RPGs like Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy 6, and Chrono Trigger.  In this 16x16 pixel tile asset pack, you'll find the following elements:

  • Dirt and moss auto-tiles with multiple variations
  • Variable elevation/cliffs, with stairs and cave walls
  • Cave wall entrance/exit, both dark and sunny
  • 3-frame sparkling water and a 6-frame waterfall animations
  • 4-frame sparkles and 8-frame waterfall options (new in version 2.1!)
  • 9 environmental objects, including stalagmites, rocks, and plants
  • 4 color variations included (new in version 2.0!)
  • Like-sized objects on separate sheets for easy slicing (new in version 2.1!)

As an added bonus, this asset also includes the TMX (Tiled) source file for the sample map seen in the screenshots. A helpful guide for setting up the tileset and understanding how I build maps.

Just saw your previous comment that this can't be used with RPG maker, what is this intended to be used with? Does this mean all of your sets are incompatible with Rpgmaker?

(1 edit)

RPG Maker has very strict requirements for things like tile size, sheet size, and autotile construction. This will work fine with any engine that doesn't impose strict limitations. Unity and Godot are popular in the Mana Seed Discord.

If you really want to use this with RPG Maker, you need to research the requirements of your version, and how to import custom assets. You can make this work by editing it yourself, just understand that RPG autotile brushes will never work with any of my tilesets.

Was excited to use this set, but I can't use it in RPG maker. not what I expected and wasted money trying to figure it out.

So, nowhere on this page does it say anything about RPG Maker. There's a comment immediately below this one lamenting the same thing, in which i reply "Right, it's not made for RPG Maker ๐Ÿ‘". So I'm genuinely confused as to why you expected this to be made for RPG Maker.

(1 edit) (-1)

Beautiful stuff, but heads up - it pretty much doesn't work with RPG Maker unless you want to parallex map or do some other long-winded work around. Pack does not come with A/B/C/D sheets, and autotiles are not drawn with RPGM standards in mind.

Right, it's not made for RPG Maker ๐Ÿ‘

So, is the 4th muddy cave supposed to be a lava cave?

If you like, sure ๐Ÿ‘

This map is right for handling collision with tilelayer ?

Umm... yes? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

(1 edit)

You ask me by a question lol you don't known ? Sometimes tileset join two field type in one tile, so handling collision can be difficult. This is why my question.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking if there are any tiles that have both a floor and a wall in the same 16x16 space? Maybe on some corner tiles, I guess.

Ok, so collision can't be handled by tiles only thank you ! :)

Would it be possible to include a TileD map sample in every product of yours?

(1 edit) (+1)

I'm afraid I don't know what TileD (big D) is, so that's not likely. I use Tiled (small d, https://thorbjorn.itch.io/tiled) to make my sample maps, and try to include one if I have time. It's just not always feasible. I have no plans to go back and add one to already published assets, unless they get an update.

(1 edit) (-3)

It's the same program, I just always wrote it as TileD with the capital D to distinguish it from the word "tiled".

Thank you so much for including the sample Tiled map. Extremely helpful to see!

I really think your work is amazing! I browsed through your page and I got really enthousiastic. It almost fits my need perfectly. What concerns me however is the tilesizes of every pack. I downloaded the chests and the breakable pots pack just now to figure it our for myself (as  the description on the pages did not include it) and learned that those are 32x32 big. But here you state this tileset is made of 16x16 tiles.

This is for me a big concern and reason for doubt to purchase as I need to be certain that if I buy any Mana Seed pack I can use them with the others without having to deal with size issues. And I honestly expect all of them to fit together perfectly since your work is more expensive than the other assets I find on itch. Don't take me wrong, I still think it is cheap what you ask. If I'd buy all your packs I think I'd have to spend around ~$250,00. Looks like a lot, but once bought I can use it in every copy of my game. And I'd only have to sell 25 copies in order to earn it back, no biggie.

But to stay ontopic, I really urge you to update all descriptions on every page with information about the tilesizes and sprite sizes in pixels. Also, if this tileset is really 16x16 I urge you to update the chest sprites to be 16x16 as well.

I think you might be confusing tile size with sprite size.

All my tilesets are based on a 16x16 pixel framework. Some objects (or sprites) occupy more than one tile.

My doors are 2 tiles wide and 2 to 3 tiles high. My trees are between 3 and 5 tiles wide and up to 6 tiles tall, but the tiles are always 16x16.

Breakable Pots (which is not this asset you are commenting on, by the way) includes an animation that necessarily exceedes one tile, but also includes pot shard particles at much smaller than 16x16 so you can make your own animation.

Things like interactive chests and breakable pots should be game objects/sprites, not tiles (it's worth noting that in neither of those other assets, do I describe them as tilesets or 16x16). Unless it's a stylistic choice to have everything occupy only 16x16, I would urge you to account for certain elements being bigger than that.

Thank you for the quick reply! And thanks for the information. I will look for another asset pack to purchase than.

If you're sincerely interested in using Mana Seed assets, but are having issues with implementation. You are welcome to join my Discord server and ask some questions of other members. You can find devs using Unity, GameMaker Studio, and RPG Maker, who might be able to help you.
